Two new readings available from Ministry of Education library.....enjoy :o)

Hei oranga Māori i te ao hurihuri nei: living as Māori in the world today: an outcome of kura kaupapa Māori, by Kimai Tocker.
Article in Mai Journal: a New Zealand Journal of Indigenous Scholarship, 1 (1), 2012, p. 15-28.
Interviews adults who were pupils at some of the first kura kaupapa Māori established in Auckland during the 1980s. Examines how the ideas about 'living as Māori' that underpin kura objectives have impacted on their lives. Looks at cultural mechanisms the former students apply as they seek to live as Māori in a predominantly Pākehā world.

Reading comprehension interventions for middle school students with learning disabilities: a synthesis of 30 years of research, by Michael Solis et al.
Article in the Journal of Learning Disabilities, 45 (4), 2012, p. 327-340.
Synthesises 14 studies (1979-2009) of reading comprehension interventions for middle school students with learning disabilities. Findings support the use of summarisation or main idea strategy instruction as a means to improve understanding of the text.

Kia ora koutou katoa

This is an awesome online tool for reluctant readers and writers.

Would work really well as a collaborative task with teina/tuakana or teacher and whole class activity...It really is very good.

I signed up and wrote my first story all in the space of  10 mins...Have a go! :-)
